On Sunday, the 28th of September, the 8th race for the Belgian championship was held at Cheratte.

We took a look at the team of Glenn Goelen who was the Belgian Junior Champion in 2007. Glenn is participating this year in the Formula 2. He encountered already a lot of bad luck in Race 4 in Grobbendonk and in the Diamond Race in Viersel.

In Cheratte, Glenn’s team took their fresh new boat “out of the stable”. With very nice bright yellow color, this boat stands out among the other participants. This new boat has a better look and a better streamline compared to the old one and will take care in the future that Glenn will grab the title back again in this nice and exciting championship.

We had a short interview with Glenn concerning the race in Cheratte, here’s his comment:

“We were the last ones to start; we had a rather bad start due to the wrong choice of the level of the boat. After the first round, we overtook approximately 2 persons and we were fully chasing Dave Vansteeland. On the smooth water, most boats were faster than we were, for this reason we had to compensate the difference on the rough parts of the circuit. We were stucked 200 meters long behind Vansteeland and with moderate speed we passed other skiers, such as Gregory Dumetier and Tim Lisens. After half an hour racing, we were on the third position. I (Glenn) didn’t realize it at all and I thought that we were still skiing on 4th place. It so happened that Tim Liessens fell, so it turned out then that I was skiing in the third position. We were able to hold on to this position until the end of the race. If I was in a better shape (because of my injuries, I am not certainly in top condition), the second place would have been certainly mine. Steven Van Gaveren was 1st, Dave Vansteeland was the 2nd and I was third. Everyone was very satisfied concerning the result and I have never ever skied so fast as during this competition. For the whole team, this was a very good race. I think, however, that many teams were surprised concerning our result and concerning our speed. It is always nice to hear: 'Wow, you skied so fast' or ' Oh my gosh, I didn’t expect this’. This was a very successful race and we hope to achieve the same or perhaps better result in Grobbendonk next week”.

It will be difficult for Glenn and his team to become this year’s champion, but we know that the team is ready to vie for the title in the Belgian Championship 2009 in the Formula 2.

Results of the 8th Race Water ski in Cheratte in the Formula 2 Class:

1. Van Gaeveren, Steven
2. Vansteelant, Dave
3. Goelen, Glenn
4. Robijn, Micha
5. Weckx, Kenny
6. Lisens, Tim
7. Dumetier, Gregory
8. Verboven, Ives
9. Roodnat, Arie-Pieter
