Be sure to check a members expiration date on their press ID too, if it expired they no longer have IPA authorization or privileges, please refuse their requests. Do not accept what may look like International Press Association ID unless you have verified member status on our site. 

Latest Bogus Press Cards Discovered

August 13, 2011...It is now ten years after 9/11 and we still find people trying to gain access to security sensitive areas using fake documents, press cards, law enforcement badges or bogus company identification.  In a world that is in chaos, homeland security, the FBI, the IRS and local law enforcement are all on the alert for any suspicious activities. Commercials on television and ads in the media urge us all to report suspicious activities or individuals, so it is hard to imagine anyone still attempting to gain media access using fake credentials like the one in this photo.. 

Unfortunately, this individual seems to have obtained this card thinking it was a legitimate Press Card. After we spoke to him, he told us he thought it might not be legitimate but wasn't sure. After we pointed out the dangers of using a press card like this and being caught he agreed to destory the card and is a bit wiser now.

Today, people are smarter and do question those that are suspicious, it is how we have discovered many plots by terrorists and others that are intent on harming the United States or our citizens.

Of course this card is a fake and anyone that grants media access and sees Press ID from legitimate members of the media, can easily identify a fake. For those not sure, we advise them to attempt to verify the ID by contacting the authorizing agency or media outlet. Everyone should attempt to verify the individuals published works from that media outlet as well.

An individual holding a fake press ID is considered in posession of a falsified official document. Those that attempt to use fake press ID are often caught using them to gain access, possibly to a security sensitive area. Some even attempt access to a crime scene while others we have documented on this site, simply flash it to law enforcement agents in an attempt get out of some illegal activity. In most cases they are caught because most law enforcement agents have been trained to recognize these fakes. Today they can verify an individuals story by doing a simple internet search for the issuing company, this is how many have discovered fake IPA cards. Those that grant media access or other benefits to legitimate members of the press are also warned against individuals posing as members of the press. IPA has constantly advised individuals to verify anyone seeking access as a prudent security measure. We would encourage everyone to report incidents or individual attemtping to use fake Press ID to gain access or benefits and always verify the organization they claim to work for, and of course, the quality of their work.  Not sure, email us.
