Gaining media access to events can be tricky and depends on a number of factors. First, ask yourself if the event is a major one that will receive tons of press coverage (and will therefore be more difficult to gain access), or is a lesser-known event that will welcome the publicity and coverage?
IPA members have a unique opportunity to showcase their best works on our web site. In order to qualify as a member of the media, one must usually show their published works in a legitimate media outlet, find out how you can make your profile shine.
Events, trade and consumer shows, conventions and seminars offer great opportunities to hone your photojournalistic skills. Find out how you can gain media access and gain the all important experience required to sell you work in the digital marketplace.
I think the first order of business for IPA members to take to heart, is the importance of having a well-developed Member Profile. Having a valid press card might help you get a good spot at a parade or entrance into a museum, but when you need important media access, those that grant that access want to see your published works in or on a legitimate media outlet.
IPA needs experienced members to help our new members who may seem a bit lost. If you have a rockin profile and published your work on our site then we ask you to be generous with your time and help others get started too. Your support will only make IPA a stronger organization and might help someone else succeed in our industry...Pay It Forward!
